Image 2 HTML
Something that is more fun than anything else is a function to convert images to html. I cannot think of any other reason but to post it on some forums or websites as entertainment. It is definitely looking nicely and the program that I'm going to introduce right now has a lot of additional options that affect the html output.
Image 2 HTML is a software that can process any number of images and convert them directly into HTML files that can be posted on websites. The quality of the output is excellent, you can take a look at a small sample gallery here. The image is converted into a fully colored HTML file using chars defined by the user. This would probably make an excellent surprise for the misses if you convert an image showing the both of you with the chars Iloveyou or something similar.
Back to the tool. The background color, width, char size and char-set can be defined as well as some additional effects like mirroring the image or inverting it.
The settings invite to play with them to create different looking images. If you can come up with another use of an image 2 html converter let me know please. Maybe to prevent images from being blocked by a firewall or network restrictions.
Update: Image To HTML has been discontinued. Neither the website nor the software are available anymore on the Internet. Interested users can try an alternative service like Neil Fraser's Image to HTML Converter to convert a web image into HTML.
Web image in this regard means that the image needs to be available on the Internet, as it is only possible to convert Internet images into HTML. The service has no uploading facilities to upload images from the computer to convert them to HTML. Use a free image host first if you need to convert a local image to HTML.

If you did great on school and had a lovely job behind a desk and made enough money to give your children the best, you wouldn’t say that.
Why not doing your best to get rich and then give people from what you have? Your standpoint is from another world than we live in. Work produces added value, and it doesn’t matter in which way to earn money from it. But I stop here because this is going to be an ugly discussion
>You should work for free because it is right thing to do.
Is it also “right thing” to badmouth people who have different ethics from yours?
>such a thing is in blatant violation of everything academic tradition has stood for since the days of Ancient Greece
I am pretty sure slaves in Ancient Greece hadn’t quite thought of themselves as open source enthusiasts and upholders of academic tradition… :)
@rruben
“Why should you work for free?
How do you feed your children if you work full time on open source projects and you reject earning money from it? pff think about it.”
You should work for free because it is right thing to do. What little I do to support the Open source community is for free and I live in poverty you probably don’t understand.
As to how to feed your children there are plenty of weeds growing in the woods. And plenty of ways a person can live without lying and stealing for a living. Don’t laugh I feed my kids partially with weeds out of the woods and still feed myself partially that way.
As to how these programmers are to make money I will gladly give them a real job doing real work digging ditches and carry concrete block. Let them see what reality and work truly is.
@Rarst “Sure, sure… Those evil windows programmers who want to earn money. How dare they?..”
Exactly how dare they sell information. maybe you don’t understand the history of western civilization but such a thing is in blatant violation of everything academic tradition has stood for since the days of Ancient Greece. And Stallman is right it is a crime against humanity.
Anyway my complaint about this program is disguising and presenting it as shareware when it adds watermarks to images and makes them unusable and then tries to extort money out of someone to remove the watermarks. This is in my mind unethical and the program itself is not worth anything as I could write the code for such a program myself if I so desired.
Pretty cool :) I liked the effect even if I have no idea if the software is any good. Sorry to hear they actually watermark the images though.
For me, just trying to visit the Image 2 HTML site set off a warning from Avast’s web shield.
I find the most interesting thing the choice of sample images. Someone a big Avril fan?
>Unless of course you pay, that is the reason i hate windows software. Programmers wanna steal from you and think the world owes them money.
lol… Sure, sure… Those evil windows programmers who want to earn money. How dare they?..
It is fun that such a tool exist but its also pretty useless and I don’t see any money in this, unless the pictures become cristal clear, but that isn’t the case.
@starhawk
Why should you work for free? Even in the big open source projects involves big money. If not by donations and sponsors then by the service some companies give to B2B customers.
How do you feed your children if you work full time on open source projects and you reject earning money from it? pff think about it.
>If you can come up with another use of an image 2 html converter let me know please.
In like dozen of years such software exists I don’t think anyone had ever come up with sane reason to use it. Classic “because it’s geek”.
Vista Snipping Tool includes basic functionality, but I have never tried it.. maybe I should =P
This program is crap, I installed it in Linux using wine and it worked but the images it produces are watermarked and unusable for anything. Unless of course you pay, that is the reason i hate windows software. Programmers wanna steal from you and think the world owes them money.
On trying to open the sample images, my avast! av alerts me of malware..
