Firefox Locationbar Extension
The location bar, or address bar, in Firefox displays the url of the website that you are visiting. The website is normally displayed without dashes and contains the protocol, the subdomain, the domain name and the path. A less confusing way especially for novice or insecure users would be to divide the url into different parts.
This makes it easier to distinguish the domain from the rest of the url, which can be useful especially when it comes to phishing websites and other malware sites.
The Locationbar extension modifies Firefox's address bar to use a so-called breadcrumb system in the browser's address bar.It removes the protocol from the address bar, lightens the color of the subdomain and presents the path in a breadcrumb display style. This makes it far easier to recognize the url which is especially good to detect if you are on a fake website.
Several options can change the appearance and display of the url. It is in my opinion useful to remove that the https protocol is not shown as well. This is important to detect fake websites.
Other options change the color of the main url and change to a breadcrumb style display. A click in the address bar displays the full url again.
Note: Newer versions of the Firefox web browser highlight the root domain of the website you are on so that it is distinguishable from the rest of the address.
The Locationbar extension is not compatible with newer versions of the Firefox web browser. While you can still install it, you will notice that it does not remove the protocol anymore or divide the directories in the address bar. You can however press the Ctrl key on your keyboard while you move the mouse over the url to display the elements again.
When you do so, they become clickable and you can visit the directory when you click on it just like before.
